Celebrating Integration

Last month we were delighted to hear that we were successful in our quest for our fourth Green Schools’ flag on the theme of transport. This month we flew a green flag with a difference.  The green and white flag of Pakistan flew alongside our tricolour, to celebrate our eight year association with our pupils who are native to the country.

On Friday, 2nd of May, members of the Zahid and Ahmad immediate and extended families, resplendent in their national attire, joined our little school community in celebration.  Arfat and Simran had taught the Senior pupils the National Anthem of Pakistan. The Seniors sang the Anthem in Urdu to the gathering, and Arfat and Simran then read the English translation.

We are indebted to the Pakistani Embassy for providing us with flags, posters and information, and not least for putting us in touch with Dr. Naila Javed and her daughter, who spoke eloquently and lovingly about their native country. They then patiently answered the many questions that the children asked about the Pakistan and its customs.

The Senior pupils gave a ‘flavour’ of Irish music and dance to our visitors, and were in turn treated to ‘A Taste of Punjab’ – sampling delicious Indian Cuisine from the restaurant in Kilkee. It was a really wonderful day- we deeply appreciate that people took time out of busy schedules to make it such an enjoyable experience.

بہت، بہت بہت شکریہ ….. Go raibh Míle Maith agaibh…. Thank you very, very much.

Nach luachmhar na rudaí a bhfaighfeá san áiléar. I measc na seod a tugadh isteach ag na daltaÍ sna hArdranganna, bhí nuachtáin agus irisleabhair at dul siar go deireadh an naoú aois déag. Foilsíodh an ‘Freeman’s Journal’ thuas ar an gCéadaoin, an 23ú lá de Mhí Lúnasa, 1922, lá tar éis Micheál Ó Choileáin a mharú i gCorcaigh. Rachadh deannail sa chraiceann i bhfeidhm ort ag féachaint ar na nithe uaimhneacha siúd. Chun féachaint orthu, brú anseo, nó téigh go Gallery, thuas.

Treasure in the attic! Wonderful publications dating back to end of the nineteenth century, and early twentieth were on display in Moveen National School during the week. Looking at them would send tingling down one’s spine. How many of us can remember the post master/mistress cranking the phone to make a call? Accelerating Reading in Moveen

29 September, 2013

Thanks to the dedication of Pat Hanrahan and the Clare Education Centre, smaller schools, such as Moveen  National School, have been afforded the opportunity to join the Accelerated Reader Programme. Classes from Second upwards will participate in this reading initiative with a view to raising fluency in, comprehension of and love for – READING and BOOKS. Parents will be able to see what their child has been reading and  monitor their progress soon, once quizzes have been completed.  You can find out more in the  “parents’ page” link. You will be able to view your child’s personal virtual ‘bookshelf’, with the image of books read to date arranged attractively on the shelves when your child takes the end of story quizzes. Access is with the pupil pin number.

We hope that this reading drive will be enjoyable for pupils, parents and school staff. We plan setting up this access asap. after screening is completed, and parents will be notified when this service is available. WATCH THIS SPACE!!  We would be delighted to hear your comments from time to time. Stay in touch and …

Enjoy!!

We will review its continuation at the end of the school year.
